Brewer's Blackbird (Euphagus cyanocephalus)

  • Size: 9 – 10 inches
  • Wingspan: 15 - 16 inches
  • Uncommon in Ohio , yet shows up every so often in southwestern part of the state
  • Male is black with a glossy purple head and greenish body
  • Female is drab gray - brown
  • Tail is long and slender
  • Medium, pointed black bill
  • Eyes are yellow in male, brown in female
  • Feet / legs black
  • Found in various habitats
  • Neotropical migrant

The Brewer’s Blackbird is easy to confuse with the Common Grackle due to their similar initial appearance and common behavior. The bird rarely is seen in Ohio and can be distiquished from the Common Grackle by its slightly smaller size, more slender bill, and shorter legs.
