Crabapple (Malus sp.)

  • Flowering occurs within the range of late-April to mid-May
  • Flowers are white to dark red
  • Very fragrant flowers
  • Fruits are 2 inches or less in diameter
  • Known as “jewels of the landscape”
  • Typical height: 15-25 feet

The shape of the Crabapple is often much different than the Redbud, often with a drooping crown of branches. Flowering occurs a month to two months after the first blooms are often found on the Redbud. The fruits of this tree are deep red and very bitter.
