Growing Conditions

Eastern Redbuds are perennial trees that range from 20 to 40 feet in height depending on growing conditions and age.

The Redbud grows best with full or partial sunlight and moist soil in a well-drained area.

If growing Redbuds from seed it may be necessary to chill and scarify seed coat, unless seeds are planted in the fall.

Once Redbuds are established they require little to no maintenance, and have few pests. Redbuds are, however, susceptible to damage from White-tailed Deer. Additionally, Redbuds may experience damage from ants, aphids, and leaf-hoppers, however these rarely produce severe damage.

Redbuds naturally occur in hardiness zones 5 to 9.
