Reproduction

Flowers

The flowers are lavender-pink in color and usually open in April. Self-pollination occurs with the help of bees.

Fruits

The fruits are small and dark in color, containing bean-like seeds. The fruits release the seeds either by opening up or by decay, after they have fallen to the ground. At this point, the seeds are dispersed by wind or by animals eating the fruits.

Life span

Redbuds grow very quickly and live on average 20 years. As they mature, they become less tolerant to heart rot, shade, and competition from other trees.
